Free Parking

Parking is always free on Sundays in downtown Chapel Hill!

This includes all Town (public) lots, decks, and on-street meters.

NOTICE FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2019:
Henderson Street will be closed between East Rosemary and East Franklin streets. Parking will be prohibited within that closure as well as in select spaces along eastbound Franklin Street. Signs on the parking meters will be placed in advance of the closure as well as cones in the spaces. Any vehicle parked in the restricted areas after 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, will be towed at the owner’s expense.

NOTICE FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2019: 

On SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm the LIGHTUP Festival will be taking place on West Franklin Street from Columbia Street to Mallette Street. Events are centered around the 140 West Plaza and the Carolina Square greenspace.

The following roads will be closed to vehicles from 8am to 8pm:

  • West Franklin Street, from Columbia Street to Mallette Street
  • Church Street, from West Franklin Street to Rosemary Street

There will be no on-street parking available in front of Carolina Square on West Franklin Street, starting on Saturday evening. Cars left on-street from Columbia Street to Mallette Street are subject to towing at the owners expense. Otherwise all public parking is available and free on Sunday.

Parking is free on Saturdays in July and December

We want you to come downtown to shop, eat, and enjoy all that our businesses have to offer! On Saturdays in July and December, public parking is free at all on and off street locations. Accessible Parking

Currently, vehicles with an accessible placard and/or license tag may park for free in accessible parking designated spots or other any designated public parking space.
